Mapping places with music videos
They Shoot Music Don’t They is a music video collective. We film unique offstage performances of bands we like in unusual settings. Inspired and encouraged by Vincent Moon’s Take Away Shows (LINK) we started exploring our homebase Vienna by means of music videos in late 2007 and have since then released roughly a session per week, including videos, photos, location info and maps. The stripped-down sessions feature internationally acclaimed as well as local bands, are unannounced, spontaneous and can take place literally anywhere. We try to capture a unique music performance and a moment in the everyday life of people and places.
Over the years we have worked in Vienna, Berlin, Copenhagen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Scottish fishing village Anstruther, and collaborated with festivals such as Haldern Pop, Donaufestival and Vienna’s Popfest.

Equipment
For video recording we currently use a Canon DSLR, but many sessions in the past have been filmed with a Canon XH-A1 cam. For sound recording we use an Edirol four-track recording box, two Sennheiser wireless mic sets and a Rode shotgun mic on the camera.
