Au Revoir Simone
Odeon Theater, 2013
A few years have passed since the Brooklyn-based trio Au Revoir Simone has released their last record. Now sitting in the backstage area of a theater in Vienna and listening to “Somebody Who”, the outtake of their new album “Move in Spectrums”, it feels like having this long-desired warm shower after a grey winter day. Beyond the stimulating use of the drum machine Au Revoir Simone’s electronic dream pop still remains of a comforting nature. This soothing effect even seems to apply to our dog Mischa, who rests on Erika’s lap during the performance. When she hits the highter notes, he turns around to look at her spellbound and finds himself in the center of enchantment.

Odeon Theater
The impressive 19th-century Neo-Renaissance building in Taborstraße 10 serves two purposes that could hardly be more different. On the one hand it is Austria’s stock exchange for agricultural products, on the other hand it is the regular venue of the acclaimed theater group Serapionstheater. Up until the First World War the stock exchange was the most important marketplace for agricultural produce in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, but then soon lost its function with the start of World War II. In 1995, however, it was reactivated and until nowadays determines standard prices for the Austrian market. Since 1988 the building’s grand hall and foyer have been used by Serapionstheater for countless memorable productions, yet this classy setting is also frequently hosting special concerts and events.
