Cid Rim
Josefstädter Straße, 2013
It’s a sunny November afternoon when we visit Cid Rim in his top floor apartment in the calm and residential Josefstadt district. Dr. Bacher, the doorbell says. The academically trained Jazz drummer, who mainly works on computer and piano these days, shows us around and talks about his record collection, influences and working habits. Cid Rim’s previous releases – a self-titled album, the EP Mute City and several remixes – have resulted in respectable media buzz (including features on Pitchfork, Dummy Magazine, etc.) and a great reputation for electronic music with an organic sound inspired by Jazz, Funk and HipHop. Just before the sun fades away Cid Rim sits down in his living room, takes his DJ pad and starts into “Red Ocean”, a track that kicks off smoothly and then builds up into more and more intense drum patterns.

Josefstädter Straße
Josefstädter Straße is the arterial road through Vienna’s smallest district, Josefstadt. The neighbourhood is sedate and bourgeois and gets busier around Josefstädter Straße. Along this main road you can find many shops, bars, restaurants, but also the classy Theater in der Josefstadt. It leads from the heavily trafficked Gürtel road nearly up to Ringstraße and the Parliament. Not only electronic producer Cid Rim, who lives along Josefstädter Straße, appreciates the small-town charm of this neighbourhood. Austria’s current down-to-earth President, Heinz Fischer, has chosen to live just a few blocks down the road.
