I Got You On Tape
Café Intime, 2012
It’s one week before Christmas, a jazzy version of “Jingle Bells“ is playing on the stereo and Café Intime is full of sparkling Christmas tree balls hanging from all over the ceiling. Jacob Bellens, the singer of the Copenhagen-based I Got You On Tape takes his seat at the grand piano right when the first guests of the day come into the bar. Lars, the owner of Café Intime, has opened a bit earlier for us, but even though we are still before opening hours start the place is filling up quickly. Some may even have recognised the piano player of the day, as I Got You On Tape won the popular danish P3 music award 2010 and had a lot of television appearances and media coverage for their latest album “Church Of The Real“. Jacob starts playing „Springsteen“ of that album and transforms what is a atmospheric, dark synthesizer song on the LP into a powerful piano ballad. “Church Of The Real“, the album’s title track, is another example of how Jacob’s characteristic voice and a few simple piano chords make a stunning live performance.

Café Intime
You don’t often find one of those surreal, yet irresistibly charming places like Café Intime. We discovered the small bar in Frederiksberg by chance on one of our last days in Copenhagen, while looking for a piano to use for a shoot. Opened in the 1920s the place now seems positively timeless. The tables, walls and ceilings are covered with tons of flowers, memorabilia and kitschy items that sparkle in candlelight. “With live performances, loose behavior and cabaret behind colored glass, the whole place has a sort of indecent yet appealing vibe“, says the online city guide copenhagen unlike and we can only agree. The bar is open every evening and you can be sure that there’s always something going on at Café Intime, be it Jazz concerts on Sundays, piano music during the week, open mic nights or occasional “Magic Monday’s“. This place is a gem in the heart of the otherwise rather conservative Frederiksberg, and the current owner Lars is determined to preserve its charm.
