Kaiser Chiefs

Tour Truck, Amager Bio, 2011

It must be still morning for Kaiser Chiefs when we arrive at Amager Bio – the venue of their Copenhagen show – at 2 pm on a greyish day in late November. The first one to appear is singer Ricky with a wake-up coffee from the „world’s best mug“ in his hand. „Where is everybody?“, he asks, looking at the empty back of their tour truck, their chosen location for this acoustic session. A few minutes later all five Kaiser Chiefs are present and make themselves comfortable in the space were normally their gear is transported. As a warm up we get to hear „Kinda Girl You Are“, the current single from their new album „The Future Is Medieval“, before they head into a powerful version of the crowd-favourite „Modern Way“ from their 2005-debut „Employment“. A classic! Few lucky people are standing outside the truck, watching a band perform that normally plays for huge audiences in concert halls and even stadiums. But also on this small, improvised stage they do not fail to impress!

www.amagerbio.dk

Amager Bio is one of Copenhagen’s bigger music venues. With a audience capacity of around 1,000 people the former cinema hosts shows by internationally acclaimed bands and artists of different musical genres since 1997. Attached to Amager Bio is also the smaller club Beta where local and upcoming international acts play to up to 150 people. The venue is located in the heart of of the island Amager in the south of Copenhagen, close to the busy and at parts multiethnic shopping street Amagerbrogade. In front of the venue there is a small square with some urban furniture to sit down and have a drink before going to one of the shows. For the session with Kaiser Chiefs we climbed into one of the tour trucks parked on this square.
