Schmieds Puls

A lot is happening these days in Mira Lu Kovacs’ life. Not only is her band Schmieds Puls’ – with whom we’ve also recorded an acoustic session two years ago in the streets of Vienna – facing increasing popularity, but the singer- and songwriter has also started a wonderful collaboration with the electronic and jazz group Kompost 3. However, in between these busy days filled with recording, rehearsing and touring Mira Lu Kovacs escapes to the countryside. It’s late summer, the fruits are ripe and a light breeze rustles through the leaves. Strolling about the vast garden with its’ lush greenery and browsing through the dusty barn brings back treasured childhood memories. While her artistic career seems to be gradually taking off, Mira Lu Kovacs plans her next voyage. In autumn she will be travelling Canada and the USA, partly touring with her band, but mostly to enjoy time on her own. After having expressed her urge to travel, embrace solitude and find peace and inspiration, Mira Lu Kovacs performs “You Can Go Now”. With the next farewell looming over the horizon, the achingly beautiful song fits the situation very well.

It has been a sticky hot day in Vienna when we escape the city by train to a village in Lower Austria. An hour later we find ourselves wandering barefoot through thick grass under old shadowy trees, picking raspberries, peaches and blackberries. This change of scenery does not only slow down the pulse, but also does something to the mind and the conversations that we’re having with Mira Lu Kovacs. She calls it a place that invites to dream or simply to sit and watch, which might lead to dreaming anyway.
