Sweet Sweet Moon

Spiegelfabrik, 2013

“It’s just so beautiful!”, Matthias keeps saying. The singer and mastermind of Sweet Sweet Moon takes us on a train ride from Vienna to Gars am Kamp, a calm village at the Kamp river, to show us his favourite space for recording, creating music and contemplation. Indeed, the studio at Spiegelfabrik, a former mirror factory, is a beautiful place! The bright, large room is equipped with a huge mixing desk and tons of instruments (including a pump organ) but still feels open and spacious. In recording breaks you can play some ping pong, go for a hike, swim in the river or just check out the other amazing rooms of the former factory. We explore the Gars and the Spiegelfabrik until the sun sets, then Sweet Sweet Moon set up their gear and perform an energetic new version of their song “Hero” with a drummer and a very sudden ending.

Spiegelfabrik

Spiegelfabrik is not just a recording studio, it’s a beautiful space for music, performance and literature. Located on the riverbank of the Kamp in the picturesque Lower Austrian village Gars am Kamp, Spiegelfabrik has attracted countless musicians who retreat from the hustle and bustle in the city to the peaceful countryside atmosphere. Sometimes they record music, sometimes they just hang out or play around with the instruments that are available, including vintage organs, guitars and a grand piano. Until a few years ago the building housed a mirror factory that produced the finest mirrors for the royal household during the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. When the factory went out of business artists, architects and musicians took over the spacious rooms and created an environment of tranquil creativity.
