Yann Tiersen

Rambla de Catalunya, 2012

The 2012 edition of Primavera Sound Festival was going to be finished by the French multiinstrumentalist and composer Yann Tiersen and his band. This last show should literally turn out as a thunderbolt! On the afternoon before Yann Tiersen’s nightly concert Yann Tiersen and his bandmates step out in the windy streets of Barcelona with us and set up in the pedestrian area of Rambla de Catalunya. From the first notes of „The Gutter“ that Yann Tiersen plays on the violin, the performance becomes all absorbing. Ólavur Jákupsson’s hair is swirling in the wind when he raises his sonorous voice. It’s mesmerising and really down to earth at the same time. „My phone went off“, guitarist Robin Allender apologises at the end of the filming session. It was so full-sounding, no one even noticed.

Rambla de Catalunya

Rambla de Catalunya is a major street in Barcelona, running from West to East and thus from the mountains to the sea through the Eixample district. Various international fashion shops are located along the street. In its center runs a pedestrian walkway lined by beautiful lime trees that will lead you directly to the very city centre, the most popular Plaça de Catalunya.
